Regulations

National Institutes of Health policy requires that all researchers and research assistants must undergo training in ethical research methods in order to be eligible for funding. Each research institution that receives any federal funding is obliged to institute a Federal Wide Assurance (FWA); an institutional contract implemented by an organization to abide with federal regulations. The Henry Ford System FWA describes the policies, procedures and ethical conduct for research activities in Henry Ford facilities conducted by employees, contractors or students. The FWA is guided by federal regulations from the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Office of Human Research Protection. These regulations are enforced in institutions that receive federal funding for research, but at present are not enforceable at other institutions. The FWA applies to all research conducted at Henry Ford Health System, not just the federally funded research. For more information, see the Federal Regulations page.
