Members

The Institutional Review Board membership consists of selected HFHS staff and at least one member not affiliated with the institution to safeguard the interests of the public. Federal regulations require that every review board consist of selected members to meet the following criteria:

  • Each review panel has at least 5 members from varying backgrounds.
  • The review panel members should be knowledgeable about the topics and scientific background of the proposals reviewed.
  • At least one member should have primary expertise in scientific content.
  • At least one member should have primary expertise in non-scientific areas.
  • At least one member should have no involvement with the institution other than as a member of the IRB, including no family members affiliated with the institution.

Henry Ford Health System meets and exceeds United States government requirements. IRB meetings are scheduled every 3 weeks, where approximately 35 new proposals, continuations or final reports are reviewed.
