Case Study 2 Your office has decided to record the amount of wait time that it takes prior to patients being attended to by the receptionist. There is a sign-in sheet at the front and the receptionists are required to note the time that they first have face-to-face contact with the patient. The time from sign-in to the point at which the receptionist attends to the patient is calculated and compared between receptionists on different days. Is this research? Yes No Correct, the purpose for collection of the data is for quality assurance and not to investigate an intervention. On the other hand, if a computerized system was being compared to a human receptionist and patient responses were being recorded on a video camera in the reception area, this would be regarded as research, especially if the purpose is to publish the study. Incorrect, there is no variable that is being altered or tested. There is no attempt to publish or record any data except the times.
