Conclusion

Confidentiality

All research should be completely confidential. Patient confidentiality is not only related to assigning numbers to data or blocking out faces on photographs. If any person or agency can trace personal disease or genetic history of a research subjectt, that subject's confidentiality has been violated.

This issue has extensive implications in the era of denial of medical and life insurance benefits. Researchers need to take precautions to lock data up, avoid sharing information on computers that have public access and use coding identifiers at all times. In addition, accessing clinical data banks in order to recruit subjects or obtain subject information without their permission violates the patient's right to confidential clinical and research care.
