Vulnerable Subjects

Past abuses of vulnerable subjects, such as the Fernald Radiation Experiments, have demonstrated that special attention must be given to the rights, the effects of research, the methods of obtaining informed consent and the prevention of harm when including the following populations:

  • Children
  • Pregnant women, their fetuses and when in vitro fertilization is used
  • Prisoners
  • Mentally disabled
  • Economically disadvantaged
  • Educationally disadvantaged
