Policy

The Henry Ford IRB policy for specimen or tissue testing for genetic material requires the clear disclosure of:

  • The nature of the genetic test to be performed in the informed consent document
  • The fact that the material may be identified by subject’s names
  • Who the results will be released to or who may be able to access the information
  • Potential consequences of breach of confidentiality i.e. the possibility that if procedures are not followed insurance companies or other individuals may be able to identify the subject
  • Procedures for genetic counseling
  • The ability to decline this type of testing which requires a separate consent form
